Seriously, it is a fantastic set-up for delving into so many issues if they decided to use it as such. It could offer such a spotlight on Dean’s emotional turmoil and Castiel’s own inner-journey, while also offering a really great way for Dean and Cas to heal and to grow. The potential is here — I’m hoping the writer’s see it and explore it!

“Purgatory is a really brutal, free-wheeling place, but it has different effects on different people. It will have a different effect on Cas and Dean as you already started to see [in the Season 7 finale]. But I will say what you think you saw might not be exactly what you saw.”
I just had a thought. What if Purgatory effects people by tapping into their fears or something like that? And at the end of the finale when Cas disappeared on Dean, it was actually just a hallucination caused by Dean’s fear of abandonment?
That was my exact thought too when I read the spoilers just now — Cas disappearing is a hallucination that taps into Dean’s fears of abandonment. This would be such a cool way to explore Dean’s issues. PLEASE LET THIS BE WHAT’S HAPPENING. I WANT DEAN’S ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED. PLEASE.
It really pisses me off how fighting for being treated like a human being is now labelled as ‘social justice’ like it’s some optional clique you can just join rather than it being a struggle you have to fight daily.
